Welcome to the Neurology Service at Metropolitan Animal Specialty Hospital (MASH)
MASH is proud to offer neurology as one of its specialty services headed by Dr. Jeremy O’Neill Monday-Friday. Our hospital is ready to take on any small animal neurology cases.
What is a Veterinary neurologist?
A veterinary neurologist works on conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord, muscles, and nerves of animals. A veterinary neurologist has training to do a detailed neurological exam. Because animals are not able to voice their concerns, the neurological exam is key to determining if and what part of the nervous system is affected. After performing a neurological exam, a veterinary neurologist can discuss with an owner the most likely causes for their animal’s problem, the tests necessary to determine the exact cause, and available treatment options. A veterinary neurologist not only is specialized in how to diagnose and treat your pet, but also, they are specifically trained in neurological surgeries involving the spine and brain.
Why Do You Need a Pet Neurologist?
Your pet may need a veterinary neurologist if they are having difficulty using their legs (paralysis and/or weakness), spinal pain, abnormal gaits, seizures, unusual episodic events, behavioral changes, head tilt and balance issues, or tremors. A veterinary neurologist will work closely with your family veterinarian in a collaborative manner to help diagnose and treat your pet with neurologic disease.
The MASH Neurology/Neurosurgery department offers evaluation and consultations for patients with neurologic disease. We provide specialized care for disorders of the nervous system including: Seizures Brain disorders, Disc herniations, Lumbosacral disorders, Neck/back pain, Balance disorders, Nerve/muscles diseases, Spinal cord diseases, Sleep and movement disorders.
